It is my experience that we often try to manage human (safety) performance from an office far away from the actual workplace. The belief behind is that if the map we draw from our office provides sufficient resources for a successful operation then that is what we will achieve. The problem, however, is that reality has it’s own will, set of rules and unpredictability so, rather than asking humans to study every little detail of the map (reading endless and long procedures), we should be spending more time on developing the ability to understand what is going on in reality.
This second online course (out of six) about the human element focuses on how humans can become better at analysing and understanding the present reality, thereby improving their (safety) performance. As always, I will present a bit of theory, some methods but also some practical advice and tools.
