From the many Safety Maturity Assessments that we have done, most companies still face challenges that revolve around the statement: “Leaders have more focus on getting the job done than on getting the job done safely”. It is often Cargo first rather than Safety first.

In most companies, everyone agrees that Safety Culture is a top priority.

Will this still be the case when demands for efficiency suddenly increase and work conditions change? What can happen to the safety culture when leaders often tend to focus on “getting things done” as this is the immediate business priority? And are there other and better ways of balancing demands for efficient, excellent, and safe operations?

If we wish to maintain and execute the “Safety First” idea, we need to balance efficiency and safety. We also need to understand that there are human and organisational mechanisms that often influence leaders and seafarers to prioritise deadlines over high safety standards. And these mechanisms cannot be solved via just another procedure.

In this webinar, we will explain further such mechanisms on the basis of the key findings and recommendations from our safety maturity assessments. We will provide input and inspiration as to what could be best practices for leaders on board and ashore to manage this delicate balance between a profitable business and a resilient safety culture.
