Safety & Health (§ 16)
This course is in compliance with the ‘Order on occupational health training for members of the safety group in merchant ships’ issued by the Danish Maritime Authority.
Learning Objectives
After successfully completing the course, the participants should be able to:
- Identify the most important occupational health effects on passenger and cargo ships, including major work-related diseases and occupational accidents
- Explain how occupational health can be integrated into safety management systems, including procedures for securing on-board health and safety
- Describe the key tasks performed by the safety organisation
- Perform tasks within the safety organisation, including consultancy in connection with solving occupational health problems in order to prevent and handle occupational health-related conflicts
- Retrieve information from laws, regulations, and materials provided by relevant occupational health specialists, including both national and international requirements
- Collaborate across all operational levels to ensure on-board occupational health
Mode of Delivery
This course is a combination of self-paced learning and a two-day facilitator-led session. It is carried out according to this process:
- Complete all modules via an e-training platform
- Participate and complete all exercises during the two-day facilitator-led session
- Receive certification upon completion

Registration
To participate in the course, one must:
- Be an active seafarer with a valid Seaman’s Book
- Be hired by their company to join a vessel under the Danish flag
