Danish Shipping Legislation, Ship Administration, and Working Environment for Foreign Masters

This course is in compliance with the training programme of the ‘Danish Shipping Legislation, Ship Administration, and Working Environment for Foreign Masters’ approved by the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA). It adheres to the requirements for the issuance of a Danish Recognition Certificate, valid for service as a Foreign Master on board Danish-flagged vessels.

This course is offered as a package together with the Safety and Health (§16) and Danish Maritime Legislation courses, which are mandatory prerequisites.

Learning Objectives

After successfully completing the course, the participants should be able to:

  • Familiarise themselves with the purpose of the Danish maritime legislation and its application
  • Determine answers and solutions to problems of common occurrence using the legislation
  • Recognise their duties and responsibilities as Masters: mandatory industrial injury insurance; reporting industrial injuries, personal incidents, and pollution incidents; employment contracts; duties on board; dispute resolution; penalty; police authority; maritime security; and election procedures on Danish ships, and offshore installations
  • Recognise situations requiring a maritime inquiry and how to handle crew, ship, and shipowner interests, as well as administrative obligations related to crew, contracts, and collective agreements
  • Demonstrate understanding of the clauses, acts, and orders by applying them in given scenarios

  • Module 1 – Special Measures to Enhance Maritime Security
  • Module 2 – Consolidated Act on Danish Municipal and Regional Elections
  • Module 3 – Consolidated Act on Danish Parliamentary Elections
  • Module 4 – Consolidated Act on the Election of Danish Representatives for the European Parliament
  • Module 5 – Guidance on Postal Voting on Danish Ships Engaged in International Voyages and on Danish Offshore Installations
  • Module 6 – Guidelines for Notification of Accidents at Work Concerning Seafarers and Fishermen

Mode of Delivery

This course is self-paced and carried out via an e-training platform according to this process:

1) Attend a briefing session with the DMA facilitator
2) Complete and pass modules via an e-training platform
3) Complete and pass the final examination
4) Receive a certificate of completion

Course Duration

The total duration of the course is 5 days.

3 days cover Safety and Health (§ 16)

1 day covers Danish Shipping Legislation

1 day covers Ship Administration

Registration

This course is for all foreign (non-Danish) Masters who:

  • Are candidates to serve on board Danish-flagged vessels
  • Have taken the Safety and Health course and the Danish Maritime Legislation for Senior Officers course
  • Hold a valid Certificate of Competency (COC) and Seaman’s Book
